The Taraba State Government has dismissed as false a media report alleging that Governor Agbu Kefas spent ₦5.22 billion on international trips within six months.
In a statement on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Jalingo, described the claim as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.
“This claim is entirely false. It is not based on any official record and constitutes a gross misrepresentation of facts, deliberately presented to mislead the public,” she said.
The commissioner explained that the controversial figure could not be traced to the state’s budget, official portal, or even National Bureau of Statistics records. “We have checked and urged the public to do the same. Until then, the ₦5.22 billion claim remains nothing but fiction,” Jalingo added.
She further pointed to the administration’s ongoing reforms in education, healthcare, and economic development as proof of the government’s focus. “Transformation is a gradual process, requiring deliberate planning, tough choices, and sustained effort. The results are beginning to manifest,” she noted.
The government appealed to residents to disregard the publication and instead rely on official communication channels, stressing its commitment to transparency, accountability, and truth.
