The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the latest wave of killings in Plateau State, describing the attacks as “senseless, utterly reprehensible, and a grave assault on national peace and security.”
In a statement from the Force Headquarters on Wednesday, the IGP expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives, following his visit to Plateau on April 15, 2025. He announced that two high-profile suspects linked to the killings in Bokkos Local Government Area have been arrested and are cooperating with ongoing investigations. “The Nigeria Police Force is diligently working to uncover the motives behind these attacks, identify and apprehend other suspects involved,” the statement read.
To reinforce security efforts, the IGP has directed Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to assume control of all police operations in Plateau State. The DIG has since led aerial surveillance missions over affected areas such as Bokkos and Bassa, while also engaging with local stakeholders to rebuild community trust.
Following a comprehensive operational review, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to bolster rapid response capabilities and intensify patrols in high-risk zones.
Police teams are currently conducting on-the-ground assessments to strategically position security units and prevent further outbreaks of violence. The IGP called on residents to remain calm, support law enforcement efforts, and report any useful information that could aid investigations. He offered his deepest condolences to the families of victims and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to restoring peace and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
