The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four police officers who were captured in a viral video counting bundles of cash inside a patrol vehicle.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe announced the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying the officers had already been brought before the Commissioner of Police.
“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the Commissioner of Police today,” Edafe said.
According to him, the four personnel include two senior officers and two inspectors.
“The four personnel, two of them senior officers, have been queried, while the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting an orderly room trial,” he added.
The arrests came after a viral video surfaced online showing the officers seated in a patrol van, openly counting stacks of money. The footage sparked widespread criticism, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and disciplinary action.
Earlier, Edafe had assured the public that the Command would not overlook the misconduct.
He noted that the Delta Police “would take appropriate disciplinary action against the officers.”
With the two inspectors already in detention and senior officers facing queries, the police authorities say the matter is being handled in line with internal disciplinary procedures.
The incident has once again raised concerns about police misconduct and corruption in Nigeria, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of accountability within the force.
