The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has assured manufacturers that all data submitted under the new electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) system will be kept confidential and secure, in compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Act (NDPA). Speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Lagos, Mike Adoga, Acting Director of Tax Automation at FIRS, emphasized that e-invoicing is not solely an FIRS project, but a federal government initiative led by a multi-agency steering committee, including FIRS, NITDA, CBN, and the Ministry of Finance.
Adoga explained that NITDA regulates access point providers, who must meet strict requirements—including compliance with NDPA and relevant ISO certifications—before being approved to handle data within the system. He reassured stakeholders that robust measures are in place to protect tax-related data within the e-invoicing ecosystem.
