Nigeria’s top security officials, led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), are set to brief the media today following recent comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump hinting at possible U.S. military intervention in Nigeria.
The high-level meeting, which includes the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, and other key intelligence heads, is aimed at assessing the diplomatic and security implications of Trump’s controversial statement.
According to government sources, the briefing will focus on clarifying Nigeria’s position on national sovereignty, internal security, and religious harmony amid global reactions to Trump’s claim that his administration could launch attacks in response to alleged persecution of Christians.
Officials close to the NSA’s office said the gathering is part of an ongoing series of emergency consultations within Nigeria’s security architecture. “The government is taking this issue seriously and intends to respond through proper diplomatic and legal channels,” one senior official disclosed.
The NSA is also expected to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to peace, unity, and interfaith coexistence, while warning against attempts to misrepresent internal challenges as religious conflict.
The planned briefing comes as public concern grows over Trump’s remarks, which analysts say could strain diplomatic ties between Abuja and Washington if not properly addressed.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has urged citizens to remain calm, assuring that Nigeria’s defense and intelligence agencies are fully prepared to protect the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
