Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has hinted that some of the club’s sidelined players could be given “a new life” at Old Trafford if their exits do not materialise before the transfer window closes.
The United boss confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have been training separately from the first-team group, as the club weighs up possible deals for them.
So far, interest in the players has failed to develop into concrete moves, largely because of United’s valuation. Garnacho has been linked with Chelsea, Real Betis are exploring a return for Antony after his loan stint, while Sancho’s future remains complicated by his reported £350,000-a-week salary.
“I know that it’s not a good thing to have players in this situation, but it’s clear they want to play in a different club,” Amorim said on Friday. “So, we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy, I have to try to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future. Then the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter.”
Amorim stressed that things could shift once the September 1 deadline has passed.
“When the window is closed, it’s a different history. When the window is closed, we have to receive the players and then a new life. Anything can happen,” he explained.
United endured a frustrating start to their Premier League campaign, suffering a 1-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was culpable for Riccardo Calafiori’s winner, while Andre Onana remained sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Although Onana is expected to be available against Fulham, Amorim was non-committal about restoring him to the lineup.
“Onana is ready to play like last week, so we will see in the game who is going to be the goalkeeper,” he added.
