Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the 2024-25 Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year, adding another prestigious honor to his illustrious NBA career.
The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award, presented annually since the 2012-13 season, recognizes the player deemed the best teammate based on selfless play, leadership both on and off the court, mentorship, and commitment to team success. A panel of league executives selected 12 finalists—six from each conference—with current NBA players voting to determine the winner.
This marks the first time Curry has received the Teammate of the Year Award. He previously earned the NBA Sportsmanship Award in 2010-11 for exemplifying integrity and fair play on the court.
A 16-year NBA veteran, Curry is a two-time Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, an 11-time NBA All-Star, and the league’s career leader in three-pointers made. He has captured four NBA championships, all with the Golden State Warriors—the only franchise he has represented.
The Twyman-Stokes Award holds deep historical significance. It is named after Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, whose extraordinary friendship transcended basketball. Teammates on the Rochester/Cincinnati Royals from 1955-58, their bond grew after Stokes suffered a career-ending injury, leaving him permanently paralyzed. Twyman became Stokes’ legal guardian and lifelong advocate, organizing the Maurice Stokes Memorial Basketball Game to raise funds for medical care and supporting other players in need.
Stokes was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004, following years of lobbying by Twyman, who himself was inducted in 1983. Twyman passed away in 2012, the year the award was introduced to honor their enduring legacy of loyalty, compassion, and friendship.
