The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the new Super Eagle’s coach Eric Chelle will be unveiled on Monday by 11 am.at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium.
Chelle’s unveiling will be coming barely a week after NFF’s appointed the Franco-Malian as the Super Eagles Head Coach.
The announcement of Chelle;s appointment has received a lot of criticisms from Nigerians who have questioned the capabilities of the 47 year old former Malian coach.
However, despite Nigerians views on the decision of the NFF, the President of the football body, Ibrahim Gusau has thrown his weight behind Chelle.
“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau said on Sunday in a post on the NFF’s website.
“However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles. The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job.”
The unveiling will also be an opportunity to name Chelle’s assistants. The crew will lead the Super Eagles B team to next month’s African Nations Championship in East Africa.
After that, attention will be shifted to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles have started the campaign poorly, and currently in fifth position, four points adrift of the top.
In March, the Super will travel to Rwanda, an opportunity to bounce back before hosting Zimbabwe.
