Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year, securing an overwhelming 90% of the vote in a season that saw him deliver yet another stunning campaign. This marks Salah’s third time winning the prestigious award, placing him alongside Thierry Henry as the only players in history to claim the honor three times.
The Egyptian forward played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s title-winning season, leading the Reds to their 20th English top-flight championship. Salah tallied a remarkable 33 goals and 23 assists in all competitions, including 28 goals in the Premier League, underlining his continued dominance in English football. “I’m thrilled to have won this award again,” Salah said in response to the announcement. “It’s an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious organization. I owe this to my teammates, coaches, and the fans who always support me.”
Salah edged out teammate Virgil van Dijk, who finished second in the voting, followed by Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice. This accolade is the latest in a long list of honors for Salah, who has now amassed 97 individual annual or monthly awards throughout his club and international career.
Recently, he committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new two-year contract, extending his stay at Anfield until 2027. With this latest recognition, Salah further cements his status as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s illustrious history, continuing to inspire fans and aspiring footballers around the world.
