AC Milan have announced the termination of head coach Sergio Conceicao’s contract, ending his brief stint at the club after just five months in charge. The Portuguese manager, who replaced Paulo Fonseca in December, led Milan to an eighth-place finish in Serie A, maintaining the club’s position from when he took over. Despite winning the Italian Super Cup and guiding the team to the Coppa Italia final—where they lost 1-0 to Bologna—Conceicao failed to lift Milan into European qualification spots.
“AC Milan and Sergio Conceicao will not continue their journey together next season,” the club said in a short statement, thanking him for his “commitment, professionalism, and dedication.”
Conceicao, 50, won 16 of 31 matches, including 11 league victories, but could not inspire a turnaround in form. Defender Matteo Gabbia bluntly summarized the campaign: “Quite simply, it’s been a bad season. We were hoping for more.”
Italian media have already linked Massimiliano Allegri—the coach who won Milan’s last league title in 2011—with a possible return to San Siro. The 57-year-old recently concluded his second spell with Juventus. Conceicao’s next move remains unclear, but his brief Milan tenure adds to the growing list of managerial upheavals at the club in recent seasons.
