On April 10, 2025, a California jury found rapper Soulja Boy (DeAndre Cortez Way) liable in a civil lawsuit filed by a former personal assistant and romantic partner, identified as Jane Doe. The jury awarded her over $4 million in damages for sexual battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and wage-related violations.
The lawsuit, initiated in January 2021, alleged that from late 2018 to 2020, Doe endured repeated physical and sexual abuse, threats, and wage violations while employed by Soulja Boy. During the trial, Doe provided emotional testimony detailing the abuse, which was supported by photographic evidence and text messages.
While the jury did not find Soulja Boy liable for false imprisonment or creating a hostile work environment, they concluded that he was responsible for the other claims. The case now proceeds to a punitive damages phase. This verdict adds to Soulja Boy’s legal challenges. In 2023, he was ordered to pay $472,000 in damages to ex-girlfriend Kayla Myers in a separate assault and kidnapping case.
