On Thursday morning, April 10, 2025, a domestic dispute in Malta, New York, escalated into a fatal confrontation between law enforcement and a suspect. Officers from the New York State Police and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a domestic incident at the Ellsworth Commons Apartments just after 9 a.m. The suspect, 37-year-old Brandon R. Moore, barricaded himself inside an apartment.
Approximately 30 minutes into negotiations, Moore exited the apartment holding what appeared to be a handgun. After refusing commands to drop the weapon and allegedly aiming it at officers, troopers fired, fatally striking him. The weapon was later identified as a loaded CO2-powered BB pistol. Two state troopers sustained minor injuries during the incident and were treated and released from the hospital. The individual involved in the initial domestic dispute also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
