A Los Angeles jury has cleared rapper Cardi B of all civil liability in a high-profile lawsuit filed by former security guard Emani Ellis, who accused the star of assault during a confrontation outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office in 2018. The jury unanimously ruled in Cardi B’s favor after deliberating for less than an hour.
Ellis alleged that Cardi B physically attacked her—scratching her face, spitting on her, and using racial slurs. She claimed the incident caused lasting emotional and physical harm. Cardi B maintained that there was no physical contact, asserting the exchange was a heated verbal confrontation. She explained that Ellis had been recording her without consent at the time she was keeping her pregnancy private. The jury concluded the plaintiff failed to prove claims of assault, battery, emotional distress, and negligence. No damages will be paid.
Following the verdict, Cardi B expressed relief and reiterated her innocence:
“I did not touch that woman… I did not lay my hands on that girl.”
She also criticized the rise of “frivolous lawsuits” and signaled her intention to file a countersuit should she face similar litigation in the future. Appearing emotional, Cardi B also spoke about the personal toll of the trial, lamenting missing important moments in her children’s lives.
