Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has firmly dismissed recent rumours that claimed he had died, calling the reports false and misleading. The actor moved quickly to reassure fans after a Facebook user alleged he passed away following complications from diabetes and spine surgery.Instead of allowing the story to spread, Agu posted a video on his **Instagram** page in which he calmly refuted the claim and urged the public not to trust unverified reports. He blamed attention-seeking bloggers for circulating the false news, saying the hoax was driven by a desire for likes and views. As he told viewers in the video:“All because of likes, views, and comments, a blogger wrongly announced my death. They posted ‘RIP’ with my pictures. Let me shock you: Chief Chiwetalu Agu Okenmirin’ezoru1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, is not going to die any time soon.Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. The one who digs a pit will fall inside; the one who digs a grave will fall into it. I am going to carry my grandchildren.Fans and family, please disregard any rumors about my death, and kindly report the page of the blogger who started spreading them. I am very much alive by God’s grace.”Moreover, Agu reminded the public that this is not the first time he has had to confront such rumours. In 2020, he similarly debunked false death reports and used the experience to warn fans against believing everything they read online.Given the frequency of such hoaxes, Agu’s message serves as both a personal rebuttal and a wider call for media literacy: verify before you share. Meanwhile, fans and colleagues have rallied online to celebrate his well-being and condemn the spread of misinformation.
