Former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips in search of economic solutions, arguing that the answers already exist within Nigeria’s political frameworks.
Speaking in an interview, Adebayo said Tinubu’s travels for investment and economic models were unnecessary since his party’s manifesto already outlined strategies capable of addressing the country’s economic and governance challenges.
Adebayo noted that while international partnerships are important, they should not substitute well-thought-out local policies.
“What Tinubu is searching for abroad is already contained in the manifestos of political parties here at home. If he had studied and applied them, Nigeria would be in a far better position today,” Adebayo stated.
He stressed that Nigeria’s problems—including insecurity, unemployment, and economic hardship—require homegrown solutions tailored to the nation’s realities. According to him, political leaders must learn to harness existing ideas rather than outsourcing solutions.
“There are workable ideas in Nigeria’s political space that, if implemented with sincerity, would transform our economy. We cannot continue running to other countries while neglecting the wisdom we already have,” he added.
Adebayo pointed out that most of the policies Tinubu is pursuing abroad, especially in areas like foreign direct investment, agriculture, and industrialisation, are already part of reform proposals developed by Nigerian technocrats and political parties.
He urged the president to focus more on execution than exploration, arguing that Nigeria’s progress depends on leadership willpower rather than international endorsements.
“We have the blueprint. What we need now is leadership with the courage to implement it,”he said.
