Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British record transfer worth around £130 million, according to multiple reports.

The deal, reported by The Athletic and The Telegraph, will see the Swedish forward complete a medical on Monday before signing a six-year contract with the Premier League champions.

If completed, the move will break the current English transfer record, surpassing the £106 million Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a standout season last year, scoring 23 Premier League goals — second only to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah — and helping Newcastle secure Champions League football.

However, Isak has been at the centre of a long transfer saga this summer. Reports say he trained separately from the squad after telling Newcastle of his wish to join Liverpool.

The Magpies had earlier rejected an offer of £110 million, but negotiations moved forward after Newcastle signed German international Nick Woltemade on Saturday for a club-record £69 million.

Isak will be the latest high-profile signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Liverpool have already brought in German playmaker Florian Wirtz, French forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Despite this, Klopp’s men have yet to show the same dominance that saw them win the league with four games to spare last season. Still, they remain top of the table with three wins out of three, including Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted on Friday that the club might be forced to consider selling Isak to balance their books.

The Tyneside club had previously sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to avoid breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR). A record sale for Isak would ease those concerns.

Newcastle are currently struggling in the league, sitting 17th after a goalless draw against Leeds United.
