In a decisive military operation, troops deployed under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully neutralized 12 terrorists in Borno State, intensifying efforts to suppress ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) activities in the region. The operation, backed by local security outfits, also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and medical supplies from the militants.
Military sources confirmed the engagement occurred in the Loskori Kura area, where troops encountered insurgents during a targeted offensive. A heavy gun duel ensued, resulting in the elimination of all 12 terrorists.
During post-engagement clearance operations, soldiers recovered:
- 8 AK‑47 rifles
- 8 fully loaded magazines armed with 7.62mm rounds
- Cache of drugs and medical supplies used by the terrorists for treatment and sustenance.
These recoveries not only diminish the militants’ immediate combat capabilities but also disrupt their operational logistics.
The operation was not isolated; OPHK units, supported by intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) from the Air Component Command and aided by local security actors, also cleared key locations including Tamsu Ngamdu, Dalakaleri, and Gaza in Mafa LGA of terrorist activity. Military authorities have publicly lauded the troops for their renewed vigor and morale, calling on the theater command to sustain the offensive momentum.
This operation forms part of Nigeria’s ongoing strategy to root out insurgent groups from the Northeast. In earlier operations, troops eliminated dozens of terrorists and recovered arms. For example, in January 2025, forces neutralized 76 militants in coordinated operations across Damboa, Bama, and Chibok, recovering caches of grenades, RPGs, and IEDs.
Recently, precision airstrikes also eliminated at least 35 militants near the Cameroon border at Kumshe, stabilizing frontline positions for ground forces.
The success of this counter-terror operation underlines the effectiveness of coordinated ground-air offensives, bolstered by local intelligence and partnerships. By killing terrorists, seizing weapons, and clearing strategic areas, Nigerian forces are steadily reclaiming territory and fighting capacity from insurgent chains.
Sustained commitment, improved logistics, and continued collaboration with local security structures are critical to dismantling extremist threats. For a region long battered by insurgency, these efforts offer renewed hope for peace, stability, and eventual recovery.
