Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday to storm into the third round of the US Open 2025, while Novak Djokovic survived an early scare to keep his title chase alive.
Alcaraz, seeded second, dismantled Italy’s Mattia Bellucci 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 on Arthur Ashe Stadium in just one hour and 36 minutes. The 22-year-old hit 32 winners in a one-sided match against the world No. 65, whose best Grand Slam result was reaching the third round at Wimbledon earlier this year.
“I played great, to be honest, from the beginning until the last ball,” Alcaraz said after the win. “The less time I spend in court, the better for me to go to bed early.”
He will face another Italian, 32nd seed Luciano Darderi, in the next round. If both players keep winning, Alcaraz could meet Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.
