Popular Nigerian clergyman, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has sparked widespread reactions after boldly stating that America is not better than Nigeria, contrary to popular belief.
Speaking to his congregation during a recent sermon, Odumeje revealed that he had traveled to the United States, a country often praised as the “land of opportunities,” but found it lacking compared to his home country.
According to the controversial preacher, despite America’s global reputation, Nigeria still holds unique qualities that make it better — especially when it comes to human connection and community living.
In his words:
“I’ve been to that trending America. There’s no country better than our own country. There’s no place like our country if we can build our country. Imagine me going to America and requesting that I be taken back home. In Nigeria, you come out and greet your neighbours; in America, everybody passes you with no concern…”
Odumeje stressed that while the U.S. is highly developed, its individualistic lifestyle makes it less accommodating and less warm compared to Nigeria, where people often look out for one another.
His remarks have since stirred conversations on social media, with many Nigerians debating his claims about lifestyle, community values, and quality of life between both countries.
