President Bola Tinubu will embark on a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, departing Abuja on Thursday, August 14, with a stopover in Dubai, UAE. In Japan, he will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20–22, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa.” The conference will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, private investment, innovation, and sustainable development.
Alongside plenary sessions, Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings and engage with Japanese business leaders to promote investment in Nigeria. TICAD, initiated in 1993 by Japan and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union, and World Bank, alternates between Japan and Africa, with the last edition held in Tunisia in 2022.
After TICAD9, Tinubu will head to Brasilia from August 24–25 for a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. His agenda includes a bilateral meeting, participation in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and signing agreements and MoUs to strengthen Nigeria–Brazil cooperation. A delegation of key ministers and senior officials will accompany him.
