Paris Saint-Germain claimed their first UEFA Super Cup title with a stunning late comeback and penalty shootout victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Udine, Italy. Spurs, managed by Thomas Frank in his debut match, led 2–0 through Micky van de Ven’s rebound and Cristian Romero’s header — the latter aided by a blunder from PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
Lee Kang-in sparked the French champions’ fightback in the 85th minute, before Gonçalo Ramos headed in an equaliser deep into stoppage time. In the shootout, Vitinha’s early miss was cancelled out by Chevalier’s save from Van de Ven, and Mathys Tel’s miss handed PSG the edge. Nuno Mendes converted the decisive penalty to clinch a 4–3 shootout win.
The triumph, just months after PSG’s historic Champions League triumph, confirms Luis Enrique’s side as Europe’s team to beat. For Spurs, it was a harsh ending after a disciplined display that fell apart in the dying moments.
