Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has expressed deep sympathy to victims of recent flood disasters that struck Enohia Itim and Kpoghirikpo in Afikpo LGA, and Azuoto Okpuitumo in Abakaliki LGA. The floods, which began on August 7, claimed eight lives and destroyed several farmlands, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, the governor extended condolences to bereaved families and pledged his administration’s support to aid recovery and rebuilding efforts. He assured that the government would collaborate with affected communities, local authorities, and relevant agencies to deliver relief materials and initiate rehabilitation measures promptly.
Governor Nwifuru also urged residents to adapt to climate change realities by factoring weather and environmental risks into their daily lives, particularly during rainy seasons. The disaster has underscored the state’s vulnerability to extreme weather events and the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness.
