The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has named Justice Babatunde Adejumo as the incoming Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI). His appointment will officially take effect on August 1, 2025.
Justice Adejumo, a former President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) who retired in 2019, is set to replace the outgoing Administrator, Justice Salisu Garba, whose four-year tenure concludes on July 31.
The announcement was made in a statement released by the CJN’s media aide, Mr. Tobi Soniyi, confirming that Justice Adejumo’s appointment was ratified by the NJI’s Board of Governors, which is chaired by Justice Kekere-Ekun.
According to the statement, “The Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, expresses her profound appreciation to the outgoing Administrator for his tireless commitment and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the Institute and the Nigerian judiciary as a whole.”
Highlighting Justice Adejumo’s credentials, the CJN noted, “Honourable Justice Babatunde Adejumo is a highly respected jurist and a seasoned administrator, who served with distinction as President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria until his retirement in 2019.”
“His wealth of experience and deep understanding of judicial administration are qualities that are expected to significantly enhance the Institute’s effort in promoting judicial capacity development and institutional innovation,” she added.
The NJI plays a central role in the training and continued education of judicial officers and judiciary staff across Nigeria. It also serves as the judiciary’s top institution for academic and professional advancement, conducting seminars, conferences, and workshops aimed at boosting judicial performance, ethical conduct, and administrative efficiency.
With Justice Adejumo stepping in, expectations are high for the Institute’s continued commitment to excellence and reforms within the justice sector.
