Aryna Sabalenka wasted no time advancing to the fourth round of the French Open, delivering a dominant 6-2, 6-3 performance against Serbia’s Olga Danilovic on a sunlit Friday afternoon in Paris.
The top seed, who is still seeking her first Roland Garros final, took just over an hour to dismantle her 34th-ranked opponent on the prestigious Court Philippe Chatrier.
“I’m super happy with the win, Olga is a fighter,” Sabalenka said after the match. “Here it’s about dreams, I give my all,” added the Belarusian, a three-time Grand Slam champion who’s determined to go further than her previous best in Paris — the semi-finals.
Up next for Sabalenka is a showdown with Amanda Anisimova. The American, seeded 16th, moved past Denmark’s Clara Tauson in straight sets, 7-6 (7/4), 6-4, to book her place in the last 16.
Elsewhere at Roland Garros, Jannik Sinner played spoiler to Richard Gasquet’s emotional farewell. The Italian world number one ended the veteran Frenchman’s final appearance at the tournament with a decisive 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 win.
Gasquet, 38, was making his 22nd and last French Open appearance. Despite the sentimental atmosphere, Sinner showed no signs of letting up, controlling the match from start to finish and denying his opponent any momentum.
The match marked Sinner’s continued resurgence after returning from a three-month doping suspension, which concluded just ahead of the Italian Open, where he finished as runner-up to defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner was clinical against Gasquet, saving three break points in the opening set and cruising through the remainder of the match without incident.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic remains firmly in the running as he continues his pursuit of yet another Grand Slam crown at Roland Garros.
