The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspect for allegedly possessing counterfeit CFA currency at the Hajj camp in Minna. The Command’s spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
On May 18, police received intelligence about a syndicate reportedly selling fake currencies to unsuspecting pilgrims at the camp. In response, operatives from Bosso Division swiftly acted and apprehended the suspect, identified as Nda-Baba Mohammed.
The suspect was found with 40,000 Francs CFA suspected to be counterfeit. During investigation, Mohammed confessed that he stole the counterfeit currency from a man named Mohammed in Kwara State while working on his farm.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full origin of the counterfeit money.
