As preparations for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations intensify, the Kano State Police Command has officially banned all Durbar festivities, citing security concerns and the need to prevent potential unrest.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made the announcement on Friday while addressing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to CP Bakori, intelligence reports indicate that certain groups may attempt to exploit the Durbar celebrations to incite instability in the state.

“In pursuit of a safe and secure celebration, and to maintain peace and public order, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has assessed the rising tensions and uncertainties surrounding the Durbar activities,” he stated.

“Following credible intelligence reports about plans to use the Durbar as a proxy for unrest, a ban has been placed on all Durbar activities throughout the state during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations.”

The commissioner explained that the decision was made after thorough consultations with the Kano State Government and relevant stakeholders to ensure a peaceful celebration.

To maintain order, worshippers are advised to perform their Eid prayers only at designated prayer grounds and to comply with all security directives.

Outlined restrictions include:

Avoiding the carrying of suspicious or unnecessary objects

A prohibition on horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving

Parents and guardians are urged to caution their children against engaging in disruptive activities

CP Bakori warned that anyone found violating these directives would face legal consequences.

Reassuring the public of adequate security measures, he called on residents to prioritize peace during the festivities.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us prioritize peace above all else, set aside our differences, and unite as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” he urged.

The police command also urged residents to report any suspicious activities and provided emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926. Additionally, the public was encouraged to use the NPF Rescue Me application for swift emergency response.
