Florentino Pérez has won Real Madrid’s presidential election, securing another term at the helm of the Spanish football giants after defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme.
Early projections from Spanish sports outlets put Pérez on about 65 percent of the vote, with mail-in ballots expected to further strengthen his lead. The result extends his long dominance of Real Madrid’s leadership and gives him a fresh mandate to oversee the club until 2030.
Pérez entered the election as the clear favourite, backed by his record of transforming Real Madrid into one of the most successful and commercially powerful clubs in world football. His presidency has been defined by major signings, stadium redevelopment, financial growth and repeated success in European competition.
Riquelme, his main challenger, campaigned on a platform of change and had promised a different sporting direction for the club. He was, however, unable to overcome Pérez’s strong support base among club members.
The election came after a difficult season for Real Madrid, increasing pressure on the leadership to deliver a major sporting response. Pérez is now expected to move quickly on plans for a summer rebuild, with attention likely to turn to the club’s coaching structure, transfer priorities and squad renewal.
His victory also keeps continuity at the top of the club at a time when Real Madrid are managing several key projects, including long-term squad planning, continued commercial expansion and the maximisation of revenue from the renovated Santiago Bernabéu.
Pérez first became Real Madrid president in 2000 and returned for a second spell in 2009. Across his time in office, the club have won multiple Champions League titles and built a global brand around some of football’s biggest stars.
The latest win confirms Pérez’s enduring influence inside the club and ensures that Real Madrid’s next phase will continue under one of the most powerful figures in modern football administration.
