Several members of the United States Congress have called on Washington to provide additional air defence missiles to Ukraine, arguing that stronger military assistance is necessary to help the country counter ongoing aerial attacks and protect critical infrastructure.
The appeal from lawmakers comes amid renewed concerns over intensified missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian cities, energy facilities, and military positions. The congressmen warned that existing air defence resources may be insufficient to meet the growing scale of threats posed by continued attacks.
According to the lawmakers, expanding supplies of advanced missile defence systems would strengthen Ukraine’s ability to intercept incoming projectiles and reduce civilian casualties. They stressed that maintaining Ukraine’s defensive capabilities remains essential to broader regional security and stability in Europe.
The request is expected to place additional pressure on the U.S. administration as debates continue in Washington over the scale and pace of military support for Kyiv. While the United States has already supplied significant military assistance since the conflict escalated, some lawmakers argue that further support is urgently needed to prevent deterioration in Ukraine’s defensive position.
Supporters of increased aid maintain that air defence systems are particularly critical because they help protect civilian populations and strategic facilities from long-range attacks. They also argue that strengthening Ukraine’s defences could reduce broader security risks across the region.
However, the issue remains politically sensitive in parts of the United States, where some officials and analysts continue to question the long-term financial and strategic implications of sustained military support. Concerns over defence spending and escalation risks have contributed to ongoing divisions within American political circles.
The lawmakers’ appeal comes as Ukraine continues to seek additional military backing from Western allies, including advanced defence equipment, ammunition, and financial assistance. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned that shortages in air defence interceptors could leave major cities and infrastructure increasingly vulnerable.
Analysts say the latest calls from Congress reflect growing recognition of the importance of air defence systems in the evolving conflict, particularly as aerial warfare continues to play a major role in military operations.
The U.S. administration has not yet announced whether additional missile defence packages will be approved, but discussions over future military assistance are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
