The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspected kidnappers in Ondo State and recovered part of the ransom allegedly collected from victims during recent abduction operations.

Police authorities said the suspects were apprehended during coordinated security raids carried out in different parts of the state following intelligence reports and ongoing investigations into kidnapping activities.

According to the police command, security operatives also recovered cash believed to be proceeds from ransom payments, along with weapons and other items linked to the criminal group.

The state police spokesperson said the arrests marked a major breakthrough in efforts to combat kidnapping and violent crimes across Ondo State.

“Our operatives acted on credible intelligence and successfully tracked down the suspects,” the spokesperson stated, adding that investigations were continuing to identify other members of the network.

Authorities said the suspects are believed to have participated in several kidnapping incidents affecting residents, travellers and business operators in parts of the state.

The recovered ransom money was reportedly traced to recent abduction cases in which victims were released after payments were made to kidnappers.

Police officials assured residents that security agencies remain committed to dismantling criminal gangs responsible for kidnapping and extortion in the region.

The arrests come amid growing concerns over insecurity and rising abduction cases in parts of southwestern Nigeria, where commuters and rural communities have increasingly faced threats from armed criminals.

Residents and community leaders welcomed the development, urging security agencies to sustain pressure on criminal groups operating within forests and remote areas.

Security analysts said intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with local communities are becoming increasingly important in tackling organised kidnapping networks.

The Ondo State government has repeatedly pledged support for security agencies through logistics and joint operations aimed at improving public safety.

Police authorities also appealed to residents to continue sharing useful information that could help prevent crimes and support ongoing investigations.

The suspects are expected to face prosecution after the conclusion of investigations, while authorities said efforts are ongoing to recover additional weapons and locate other fleeing gang members.
