Iran has prohibited its national and club sports teams from travelling to countries it considers “hostile,” citing concerns over the safety of athletes amid escalating geopolitical tensions, according to state media.
The directive, issued by the country’s sports authorities, applies until further notice and reflects growing security worries linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Officials said the move is aimed at protecting Iranian competitors, with federations instructed to seek alternative venues for international fixtures where necessary.
The policy could affect upcoming competitions, including club tournaments and international matches, with reports indicating that Iranian authorities have already begun discussions with governing bodies about relocating games from certain countries.
While Tehran has not publicly listed the nations it deems “hostile,” the decision comes against a backdrop of heightened tensions and security concerns, raising uncertainty over Iran’s participation in major global sporting events.
