The Embassy of the United States in Abuja has warned American citizens of a high risk of protests in Abuja on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, citing tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

In a statement released Wednesday, the mission said: “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that there is a high potential for protests in Abuja today, March 4, 2026, due to the current conflict with Iran.”

It noted that previous demonstrations in the capital had led to “violent clashes between the group and Nigerian security forces.”

The embassy strongly urged U.S. nationals in the Federal Capital Territory to stay indoors. “The Embassy strongly recommends that all U.S. citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4,” the statement said.

As part of its advisory, the mission called on Americans to avoid protest sites and large gatherings, exercise caution if caught near demonstrations, and “monitor local media for updates.” It also advised citizens to remain vigilant, maintain a low profile, review personal security plans, keep mobile phones charged, and carry valid identification.

The embassy further encouraged awareness of emergency exits in buildings and recommended varying travel routes and times to reduce predictability. It urged caution in public spaces such as shopping centres, cinemas and places of worship.

Despite the alert, the embassy confirmed that consular services remain available. “The Consular Sections of Embassy Abuja and U.S. Consulate General Lagos remain open,” it stated.

The mission advised citizens to continue checking its official platforms for updates as the situation evolves.
