LAGOS, — The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works, has announced the start of repair works on failed asphalt sections around the Apongbon corridor, including the ramp/service lane connecting Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge and parts of the bridge’s inbound and outbound lanes.
Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the first phase begins Thursday, February 5, on the service lane, and is scheduled to run for six weeks, ending Thursday, March 19, 2026.
According to the state government, sections of the affected roads will be temporarily closed to traffic to protect road users and allow contractors to carry out the rehabilitation safely.
Inbound traffic diversions
For motorists heading inbound via Apongbon during service lane repairs:
- From Inner Marina: proceed via Apongbon under-bridge roundabout to Adeniji Adele Road, then Ebute Ero, before reconnecting through the ramp to Apongbon/Eko Bridge.
- From Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Third Mainland Bridge and Victoria Island: connect through Apongbon Bridge toward Eko Bridge.
During repairs on the inbound main carriageway:
- Vehicles from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge and Victoria Island are advised to ramp down at Apongbon under-bridge roundabout (near UBA), continue through Inner Marina, and use the Apongbon Bridge service lane toward Eko Bridge.
Outbound traffic diversions
The government said repairs will later shift to the outbound carriageway.
For outbound movement:
- From Eko Bridge to Inner Marina: divert through Ebute Ero ramp, then Adeniji Adele Road to Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.
- From Eko Bridge to Outer Marina, Victoria Island and Third Mainland Bridge: motorists may continue on Apongbon Bridge as directed by traffic officials.
When outbound main carriageway repairs begin:
- Motorists heading to Outer Marina/CMS, Victoria Island and Third Mainland Bridge should divert via Ebute Ero ramp through Leventis to Outer Marina/CMS.
- Traffic bound for Inner Marina should ramp down through Chapel Street to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.
Osiyemi urged commuters to remain patient and comply with temporary traffic controls, noting that traffic management personnel will be deployed throughout the period to reduce congestion and guide movement.
He added that the temporary closures are necessary to ensure proper execution of the works and improve long-term safety and traffic flow on one of Lagos’ busiest connections between the island business districts and major bridge corridors.
