LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition in separate intelligence-led operations in Ajegunle and Ojo.
Police said operatives of the Tactical Team, code-named Thunder Blast, acted on intelligence about suspects allegedly using commercial motorcycles to rob residents in Ajegunle. Officers arrested Waheed Orelope, 27, and recovered a locally made pistol and two live cartridges, according to police statements cited by multiple outlets.
In a second operation, the Ojo Division Surveillance Team moved on reports that hoodlums had taken over the Iyana-Iba Under Bridge area, where commuters were allegedly being threatened. Police said Wasiu Shonibare, 29, was arrested and another locally made pistol was recovered.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said both men are in custody and that investigations are ongoing to determine their exact roles and identify other suspected gang members. The command said further updates would follow as the probe progresses.
The command also urged Lagos residents to keep providing timely intelligence through emergency channels, saying community cooperation remains central to its strategy against street-level violent crime.
