LAFIA, Nigeria, Jan. 6, 2026 — The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has rescued four abducted children and reunited them with their families after an intelligence-led operation carried out in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
Police spokesperson SP Rahman Nansel said in a statement on Tuesday that the command received a report on Dec. 31, 2025, at the New Nyanya Division in Karu Local Government Area regarding the disappearance of the children “under suspicious circumstances.” He said detectives immediately opened a “discreet and thorough” investigation and acted on credible intelligence that led them to the suspects’ hideout, where the children were recovered unharmed.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the children were allegedly abducted by one Abraham Asoje, 28, in conspiracy with one Joy Bolaje, 29, both of Ado Junction in the LGA,” Nansel said, adding that the suspects allegedly kept the children in confinement before the police intervened.
Nansel said the children have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects said to be at large.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Mohammed, as commending officers involved for professionalism and swift response, and reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property—particularly the safety of children and other vulnerable persons.
Police urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and advised the public to promptly report suspicious movements or incidents to the nearest police station or through emergency channels
