President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Major General E.A. Uyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), following the removal of General Christopher Musa and other top military chiefs.
The announcement, made on Friday, marks another major shake-up in Nigeria’s defence leadership. According to the Presidency, the changes are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s security structure and improve coordination among the armed forces.
Until his appointment, Major General Uyede served in key command and strategic roles within the Nigerian Army, earning a reputation for discipline and professionalism. His new position places him at the head of the Armed Forces, overseeing operations across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Meanwhile, the outgoing CDS, General Christopher Musa, and other service chiefs were relieved of their duties after months of speculation about possible changes in the military hierarchy. The President expressed appreciation for their service and contributions to national security.
The new appointments are expected to bring renewed energy to Nigeria’s counterterrorism and internal security efforts, particularly in tackling insurgency and banditry.
With the announcement, Uyede becomes the country’s highest-ranking military officer, tasked with ensuring stability, operational readiness, and cooperation among all service branches.
