Former Redeemer’s University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, has urged the Federal Government to speed up reforms to ease Nigerians’ suffering.
Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television, he noted that citizens have endured hardship for 22 months since the removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market.
“We must not think of the immediate but long term. Where are all these economic policies leading us? Is it going to be better than what we have? If it is, then we need to be patient,” Tomori said.
While acknowledging some progress, he stressed the need for tangible improvements.
“It is easy to destroy but takes a long time to rebuild. We’ve been patient all along. I hope the government people are also listening that there is a time limit to patience.”
Tomori also called on the government to address security, electricity, and economic stability, urging state governments to be more accountable.
“They come into Abuja to collect money, but nobody monitors what they do with it,” he said.
“As we put pressure on the Federal Government, we should also put pressure on state governments. I’ve been to different states, and nothing has changed. Look at the problems of the people, put your money there, and solve those problems. State governments are not relevant to their people,” he added.
