As political tensions continue to rise in Rivers State, Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Nma Odu has denied reports suggesting she has resigned from office, dismissing them as unfounded and misleading.
On Wednesday, the Office of the Deputy Governor released an official statement debunking the online rumors that claimed she had stepped down from her role.
A statement signed by Owupele Benebo, Head of Press at the Deputy Governor’s Office, reaffirmed that Prof. Odu remains fully committed to her duties and continues to work alongside Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“Contrary to these baseless claims, Her Excellency remains committed to her duties as Deputy Governor, a position she was duly elected to serve alongside His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State,” the statement read.
“As a seasoned public servant and academic, Prof. Odu is dedicated to supporting the Governor in his efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Rivers State. Her exemplary leadership and expertise have been invaluable to the administration, and she remains steadfast in her commitment and support for His Excellency, Sir Dr. Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.”
The statement urged the public to disregard the resignation rumors, describing them as “malicious speculation” with no factual basis. It further clarified that Professor Odu “has not resigned and has no intention of doing so.”
Meanwhile, political uncertainty persists in Rivers State as the 48-hour ultimatum issued by Speaker Martins Amaewhule for Governor Fubara to submit the 2025 annual budget reaches its deadline. The next move by the 27 lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, remains uncertain, fueling further speculation and tension within the state’s political landscape.
