The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on United States President Donald Trump to apologise to the people of Iran for aligning with Israel in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
In a statement released Wednesday in Osogbo, the traditional ruler criticised what he described as Trump’s failure to act as a neutral mediator in the crisis. Oba Akanbi described the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran as “needless,” and condemned the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, calling it “a sin against humanity.”
“The war between the United States of America/Israel, and Iran is needless,” Oba Akanbi said. “The killing of the armless 86-year-old supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is a sin against humanity. I doubt if the United States of America’s president, Donald Trump, has a history of those they have killed. I only pray it ends well.”
He accused Trump of adopting a partisan approach rather than promoting peace. “Only cowardly countries can surrender themselves to such an approach deployed by the US president, Donald Trump,” the traditional ruler said, adding that attacks on students were a “pure demonstration of cowardice.”
Oba Akanbi argued that America’s involvement without pressing for a ceasefire has diminished its global standing. “As a true world power, you don’t take sides when two parties are at war. US involvement without calling for a truce has made them lose their grip on world power,” he said, calling the confrontation “needless and avoidable.”
“I doubt if it will end well for America,” he added, while reiterating his affection for the American people but urging their leadership to reconsider its approach.
