The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory has appealed to Christians to take full advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Rev. Yakubu Pam, the group described the registration process as “both timely and crucial,” stressing that securing a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is essential for meaningful involvement in Nigeria’s democracy.
“As responsible citizens and followers of Christ, we have a moral and civic duty to contribute meaningfully to the future of our nation. Democracy thrives when the voices of the people are heard. We must not sit on the sidelines,” the statement said.
Rev. Pam urged eligible Christians, especially first-time voters and those who have relocated since the last general elections, to ensure they register before the exercise ends.
He cautioned that neglecting this civic responsibility could have consequences, noting that “silence or indifference only empowers the wrong forces to take control of the destiny of our people and our nation.”
The association also called on churches, Christian bodies, and community leaders across the North to mobilise their members so that no one is excluded from the exercise.
“The 2027 general elections will be a defining moment for Nigeria. Let us not miss this opportunity to make a lasting impact,” the statement concluded.
