A former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor has called on the Federal Government to take seriously recent comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting possible military action in Nigeria.
Speaking in Abuja, the ex-intelligence chief warned that such statements, regardless of their political context, should not be dismissed as mere rhetoric. He advised the government to strengthen diplomatic channels with Washington and remain vigilant against any external threat that could undermine national security.
“Even if the statement was made for political reasons, Nigeria must not ignore it,” the former DSS director said.
“Every responsible government must analyze the implications of such remarks and prepare accordingly,” he added.
He further urged Nigeria’s security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and international coordination to prevent potential interference or destabilization efforts.
The retired official emphasized that while Nigeria maintains long-standing ties with the United States, national sovereignty and preparedness should remain top priorities. He also encouraged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seek official clarification from U.S. authorities on the matter to avoid diplomatic missteps.
