The United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has commended Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its achievements in the fight against illicit drugs.
During a courtesy visit to NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa, on April 28, INL Director in Nigeria, Ms. Candace Spradley, praised the agency’s operational successes and reaffirmed the US government’s commitment to deepening collaboration against drug trafficking and substance abuse, especially opioids.
Spradley assured Marwa of continued US support, stating, “If there is any area of assistance you will like, we will be ready to assist you.”
In response, Marwa emphasized the Nigerian government’s dedication under President Bola Tinubu to the anti-drug fight and acknowledged the US President’s strong interest in tackling global narcotics challenges.
Marwa also highlighted areas where further assistance is needed, including operational vehicles, forensic laboratory equipment, training for forensic analysts, cyber investigation tools, crypto analysis training, and drug testing kits.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, confirmed the details of the visit, noting it strengthens the longstanding cooperation between both agencies.
