The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ebonyi State chapter, has strongly denounced the killing of 13 citizens from the state during a town union gathering in Anambra State, describing the act as “a grave crime against humanity and God.”
Speaking at a press briefing in Abakaliki on Thursday, CAN Chairman, Rev. Scamb Nwokolo, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident which occurred on June 30 in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra, during the monthly meeting of the Ebonyi community residents.
Nwokolo called for swift and decisive action from security operatives in Anambra State, urging them to intensify patrols and protect lives across all groups in society.
“We commiserate with Governor Francis Nwifuru and the entire people of Ebonyi State. Most importantly, our hearts go out to the families of those who were killed in this barbaric attack,” Nwokolo said.
He praised the Anambra State Police Command for their ongoing response but insisted that justice must be pursued relentlessly. He also appealed to the Anambra State Government to extend support to the grieving families.
“While we commiserate with Governor Francis Nwifuru and Ebonyi people, we deeply empathise with families who lost loved ones in this heinous attack. We pray God grants them strength to bear the painful loss,” he added.
Reaffirming CAN’s commitment to advocating for peace and unity, Nwokolo noted that the church would continue to pray and work toward ensuring security and stability across Nigeria.
“As a church, we remain prayerful and steadfast. We seek lasting peace and safety for the lives and property of every Nigerian citizen,” he concluded.
