The recent arrest of Abubakar Usman, also known as Shehu, marks a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s fight against organized kidnapping. Usman, identified as the leader of a notorious gang operating in Delta State, confessed to multiple high-profile abductions and murders, including the kidnapping of a medical doctor in Issele-Uku and the abduction and killing of Ms. Esther Ojoh in Ibusa. His apprehension led police to a hideout along the Asaba-Agbor expressway, where four gang members were neutralized during a gun battle, and three AK-47 rifles with 90 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
In a separate operation in Kano State, police arrested three suspects—Abdul Sadiq, Ahmad Muazu, and Aliyu Sharif—and seized 15 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and six expended cartridges. These developments underscore the Nigerian Police Force’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
