The Federal Government has initiated a probe into a viral video that sparked outrage online, alleging that emergency staff at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja failed to attend to accident victims promptly.
The video, widely shared across social media platforms, was recorded by a bystander who said he rescued the injured from the scene of a road accident and drove them to the hospital. He claimed that medical personnel refused to provide immediate care, allegedly citing the unavailability of gloves.
Despite the initial delay shown in the footage, the video later captured hospital workers helping move one of the seriously injured victims into the emergency room. Other injured individuals were also seen making their way into the facility with difficulty.
In a statement on Sunday, FMC spokesperson Obadiah Gana confirmed that a full investigation is underway.
“Preliminary findings show that the emergency unit was well-equipped with necessary items like gloves, resuscitation kits, and medications,” Gana said.
The hospital also clarified that wheelchairs and stretchers were available at the time, and discussions with staff and eyewitnesses are ongoing to determine what happened.
Reaffirming FMC Abuja’s commitment to public accountability, Gana stated: “The hospital remains dedicated to transparency and efficient service. We have several feedback channels available to the public, including phone numbers, QR codes, and email addresses.”
The investigation aims to establish the facts surrounding the incident and address any potential lapses in emergency response.
