The Federal Executive Council (FEC), under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has greenlit an expansive array of infrastructure projects designed to modernize Nigeria’s transportation networks, rehabilitate critical water infrastructure, and support agricultural productivity. The approvals were announced Monday following the fifth FEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa.
Highlights of FEC Approvals:
Road Infrastructure Projects (13 States)
Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, confirmed approvals for rescoped, revised, and new road contracts:
- Akure-Eta-Ogbese-Iju-Ekiti to Ikere-Ado-Ekiti (Ondo/Ekiti): 15km of 18.4km stretch approved at ₦19.4 billion
- Sokoto-Zamfara-Katsina-Kaduna dual carriageway: Rescoped to 82.4km + 6 bridges, budget retained at ₦105 billion
- Maiduguri-Monguno road (Borno): 105km project segmented, first 30km awarded for ₦21 billion
- Abakaliki-Afikpo Flyover (Ebonyi): Approved at ₦25 billion
- Ikoga and Atan-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Roads (Ogun): Approved at ₦37.045 billion
- Benin-Shagamu-Ore Road (South-West): Final 96km approved at ₦187 billion
- Enugu-Onitsha Road: Rescoped to 77km and awarded for ₦150 billion, with partial funding from MTN Nigeria under tax credit scheme
Strategic Port Access Infrastructure
- 7th Axial Road Project: 50km total (including 5km of bridges), $651.7 million funding secured from China Exim Bank
- This road will serve as a logistics corridor for Lekki Deep Seaport, Dangote Refinery, and Fertiliser Plant.
Ratified and Ongoing Projects
- Aba–Ikot-Ekpene Road: ₦30.23 billion
- Expanded Shoreline Protection (Ebute-Ero & Outer Marina): Revised to ₦176.495 billion
- Cham–Numan section of Gombe-Yola Road: First phase awarded at ₦9.253 billion
Dam Rehabilitation & Irrigation (Northern Nigeria)
Dr. Emanso Umobong, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, announced major water infrastructure interventions:
- Tiga Dam (Kano): ₦11.83 billion
- Shalagua Gorge Dam: ₦7.47 billion
- Kafinciri Irrigation Project: ₦7.4 billion
- Alau Dam Repairs (Maiduguri): Addressing 2023 flooding risks
These efforts are expected to:
- Impact over 30,000 farm families
- Revitalize 50,000+ acres of farmland
- Enable up to three harvests annually
- Generate 300,000+ jobs
Ecological & Erosion Control
- Intervention across 16 LGAs in Kano Senatorial District
- Includes watershed management, flood mitigation, and ecological remediation

Umahi emphasized international validation of project scope and value:
“The Dutch Bank and Development Bank of Southern Africa reviewed procurement and design. They not only endorsed it but said it was undervalued.” These developments form a cornerstone of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at revitalizing infrastructure, ensuring food security, and boosting employment across Nigeria.
