Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has been dropped from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle unveiling his final list on Thursday.
The 23-year-old forward has endured a difficult summer after his highly-anticipated move to AC Milan collapsed due to medical concerns, leaving him sidelined from international duty.
Despite Boniface’s absence, Nigeria’s squad still boasts key stars such as Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman, Stanley Nwabali, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, and Calvin Bassey. These players will be central to the Super Eagles’ push to revive their World Cup qualification hopes.
Chelle also handed call-ups to Felix Agu, Benjamin Fredericks, and Christantus Uche, three fresh faces who impressed during the Unity Cup earlier this year.
The Super Eagles will host Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on September 6, 2025, before traveling to Johannesburg for a crucial clash against Bafana Bafana of South Africa on September 9, 2025.
