Mathieu van der Poel secured his third consecutive Paris-Roubaix victory on Sunday, April 13, 2025, solidifying his status among the race’s all-time greats. He joins France’s Octave Lapize (1909–1911) and Italy’s Francesco Moser (1978–1980) as the only riders to achieve this feat .
The 259.2 km race, renowned for its punishing cobblestone sectors, featured a highly anticipated showdown between van der Poel and debutant Tadej Pogačar. The duo broke away with approximately 45 km remaining, but Pogačar crashed on a tight right-hand bend with 38 km to go and required a bike change, allowing van der Poel to capitalize on the opportunity. Despite a late puncture, van der Poel maintained his lead to finish solo in the Roubaix velodrome.
Pogačar recovered to claim second place, an impressive result in his first appearance at the “Hell of the North.” Mads Pedersen rounded out the podium in third, followed by Wout van Aert in fourth and Florian Vermeersch in fifth Van der Poel’s victory further cements his dominance in the spring classics and underscores his exceptional prowess on the cobblestones.
