Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with head coach Thomas Frank less than eight months into his tenure, following a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United that left the club hovering just five points above the Premier League relegation zone.
The North London side sit 16th in the table and are winless in their last eight league matches — their worst streak since October 2008. Spurs have managed only two victories in their previous 17 Premier League outings, picking up just 12 points in that stretch.
Confirming the decision on Wednesday, the club said: “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today.
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.
“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”
Frank, who joined Tottenham from Brentford after Ange Postecoglou’s departure, had signed a contract running until 2028. Despite guiding Spurs to automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16 after finishing fourth in their group, domestic league performances failed to improve.
This season, Tottenham recorded seven league wins, eight draws and 11 defeats. The club has also exited both domestic cup competitions, losing to Newcastle in the League Cup fourth round and to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.
In its statement, Spurs acknowledged Frank’s efforts, saying: “Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward.
“We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”
