Colombian superstar Shakira has announced “Dai Dai,” the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy.
Shakira revealed the track on Thursday through a teaser posted on social media from Brazil’s Maracanã Stadium, one of football’s most iconic venues. The full song is scheduled for release on May 14. “From Maracaná Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready!” she wrote.
The announcement has generated excitement across football and music circles, particularly in Africa, where Burna Boy’s inclusion is being celebrated as another major global moment for Afrobeats. The Nigerian singer, one of the continent’s most prominent music exports, joins a select list of African artists who have contributed to FIFA World Cup soundtracks.
For Shakira, “Dai Dai” marks a return to familiar territory. Her 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” became one of the most successful and recognizable football songs of all time. She also performed “La La La” for the 2014 tournament in Brazil, further cementing her status as one of the artists most closely associated with World Cup music.
The 2026 tournament will be staged jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, making it the first World Cup to be hosted by three countries. It will also be the first edition expanded to 48 teams, increasing the global reach and commercial scale of the competition.
Recent World Cup soundtracks have featured a mix of international stars. In 2014, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte performed “We Are One (Ole Ola),” while Nicky Jam, Will Smith and Era Istrefi released “Live It Up” for the 2018 tournament in Russia. At Qatar 2022, FIFA rolled out multiple soundtrack songs, including “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” featuring Trinidad Cardona, Davido and Aisha.
The new track should not be confused with Coca-Cola’s official 2026 World Cup anthem, a reimagining of Van Halen’s “Jump” featuring J Balvin, Travis Barker, Amber Mark and Steve Vai.
With Shakira’s World Cup legacy and Burna Boy’s global Afrobeats influence, “Dai Dai” is expected to become one of the defining musical releases of the 2026 tournament buildup.
