Celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s latest victory have escalated into widespread disturbances across parts of the France, prompting a renewed public order challenge for authorities as arrests approached 900 nationwide.

Security forces were deployed in large numbers after festivities in several cities turned violent, with incidents reported involving clashes, vandalism, and confrontations between groups of celebrants and police. Officials confirmed that emergency response units were activated to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

The Paris Saint-Germain triumph triggered large gatherings, particularly in Paris and other major urban centres, where spontaneous celebrations quickly spilled into disorder in some areas. Law enforcement agencies said the scale of the unrest required coordinated intervention across multiple jurisdictions.

Interior ministry sources indicated that hundreds of individuals were taken into custody over offences including public disorder, property damage, and failure to comply with police instructions. Authorities stressed that the majority of supporters celebrated peacefully, but a minority was responsible for the violence and disruption.

The government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order during major sporting events, stating that security measures will be reviewed and strengthened ahead of future fixtures likely to attract mass celebrations.

Officials also urged calm and responsible behaviour from fans, warning that further acts of violence would be met with firm legal consequences. Investigations into the incidents are ongoing, with prosecutors expected to pursue charges where evidence supports criminal conduct.

The events have reignited debate in France over how to balance large-scale public celebrations with the need for effective crowd control and urban security management.
